The teaser of Varun Tej-starrer Matka was dropped by the makers on Saturday and it’s as powerful as it can get, with Varun in what seems to be his career best role.
Clocking in at 1:40 minutes, the teaser opens with a character played by Ravi Shankar saying to Varun: “For every rupee that circulates in the country, 90 paisa is earned by just one among the 100. For the remaining 10 paisa, 99 people will fight including me. You are that man who can earn 90 paisa. You have courage.” Later, Varun is seen bashing a slew of individuals, with the teaser transitioning to a slightly older Varun who says, “The name Visakhapatnam should ring a bell about the sea or my name Vasu.” As it continues to shift between younger and older versions of Vasu, we also get to see glimpses of characters played by Naveen Chandra, Nora Fatehi and Meenakshi Chowdary. It ends with a slightly older version of Varun who gives us the feeling of Vito Corleone from The Godfather.
Rounding up, the teaser is first-rate and seems to narrate the rags-to-riches story of a commoner who rises to become a matka king. Varun seems to have sunk his teeth into the character, portraying its different ages with élan, while production values are rich. The background score by GV Prakash rightfully elevates Varun’s career trajectory. Dialogues by Karuna Kumar are powerful and laden with a touch of philosophy.
Produced by Dr Vijender Reddy Teegala and Rajani Thalluri under Vyra Entertainments and SRT Entertainments, Matka sails into cinemas on November 14th.
